Opening the meeting, Committee Chair N. Korolevska stated that the metallurgical industry of Ukraine is a leading branch of industrial production. However, N. Korolevska is convinced that against the backdrop of the global financial-economic crisis, metallurgical and chemical industries of Ukraine have been subjected to great difficulties due to their export orientation (more than 70% of chemical and metallurgical produce is exported).
The Chair called for increasing competitive ability of mining and metallurgical engineering companies.
The participants of the meeting discussed the bill "On the Increase of Competitive Ability of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering and Chemical Companies of Ukraine" registered in the Verkhovna Rada. The bill prevents destruction of the financial system of mining and metallurgical engineering companies. The participants expressed a number of proposals to be considered during the scrutiny of the bill.
During the hearings, the People's Deputies discussed specific problems of the mining and metallurgical engineering sector. The participants resolved to expand the working group of the Committee set up to tackle increasing of the competitive ability of mining and metallurgical engineering companies.
